UFC 271 will be headlined Saturday night with the rematch of Israel Adesanya (21-1) and Robert Whittaker (24-5). Rematches are tricky tough, too. Whittaker took massive leaps (as if the former champ had that much to go) towards getting that title shot back. How do you think this plays out? Israel’s striking is next level, and I do think his takedown defense wins this fight. If he can stay on his feet, I see Adesanya defending the belt tonight.
Main card for 271 will feature two highly ranked middleweights searching for the title shot next. Jared Cannonier (14-5) is set to take on fellow #4 ranked, Derek Brunson (23-7). A top five matchup with a title on the line? We should see a scrap. Although, I see a decision victory for Cannonier with Brunson having retirement on his mind.
Certainly my most anticipated matchup from UFC 271 will be the co-main event spot on the PPV. Derrick Lewis (26-8) battling Tai Tuivasa (14-3). I thought this was a huge jump for Tai, but he knows his key to win is the gas tank. If he can use head movement and get Derrick to engage and wear him out, he can finish him. I’m taking Tuivasa in a surprise pick for this fight. Heavyweights can end in a second, though!
